May in Spain is not just another month. It’s that moment of the year when everything opens up: homes, streets… and almost people’s mood too.
For a few weeks, the country turns into a sequence of festivals, flowers, music and traditions that, if you’re not familiar with them, can feel overwhelming.
That’s why I wanted to create this small guide: not to list them all, but to help you decide which ones are truly worth experiencing.
Córdoba – Patios & Crosses Festival
📅 Patios Festival: May 4–17, 2026
📅 Crosses of May: April 30 – May 3, 2026
Córdoba in May is simply something else. The whole city transforms into a balance between intimate courtyards full of flowers and lively squares decorated with crosses.
The patios are private spaces, carefully maintained all year long and opened to the public for a short period. The Crosses Festival, on the other hand, brings music, energy and life into the streets.

Seville – Spring Fair
📅 April 20–26, 2026
Seville’s fair is probably the most iconic image of spring in southern Spain.
It’s spectacular, but also very social: many tents are private, so your experience can vary depending on how you access it.
Still, just walking around, watching the dresses, the lights at sunset and the atmosphere is already worth it.
Jerez – Horse Fair
📅 May 9–16, 2026
If you’re looking for a more open and accessible fair, Jerez is a wonderful alternative.
Here, horses play a central role and most tents are open, making the experience feel more natural and less exclusive.
A very authentic way to experience this kind of celebration.
Granada – Crosses Festival

The Crosses Festival is probably one of the most spontaneous celebrations.
In cities like Granada, squares fill with music, flowers and people, and the celebration unfolds almost without planning.
Less structured… and exactly because of that, very easy to enjoy.
Madrid – San Isidro
📅 May 9–15, 2026 (main celebrations around May 15)
Madrid celebrates May in its own way with San Isidro.
The atmosphere is more about street celebrations: music, food outdoors and a very local, traditional vibe that only appears at certain times of the year.
A different way to experience spring: more urban, but just as authentic.
Girona – Temps de Flors
📅 May 9–17, 2026
In the north, Girona offers a completely different way to experience May.
During Temps de Flors, the city becomes a curated route of floral installations across courtyards, stairways and historic spaces usually closed to the public.
It’s more aesthetic than festive, more about slow wandering than celebration — and that’s exactly why it works so well as a contrast within a high-energy trip.
If you feel like slowing down and observing, this is your place.

Mayo en España no es un mes cualquiera. Es ese momento del año en el que todo se abre: las casas, las calles… y casi también el ánimo.
Durante unas semanas, el país se convierte en una sucesión de fiestas, flores, música y tradiciones que, si no conoces, pueden resultar abrumadoras.
Por eso he querido hacer esta pequeña guía: no para contarte todas, sino para ayudarte a decidir cuáles merece la pena vivir.

Córdoba en mayo es, sencillamente, otra cosa. La ciudad entera se transforma entre patios llenos de flores y plazas decoradas con cruces, creando un equilibrio muy especial entre lo íntimo y lo festivo.

Sevilla – Feria de primavera
📅 20–26 de abril de 2026
La Feria de Sevilla es probablemente la imagen más icónica de la primavera andaluza.
Es una fiesta espectacular, pero también muy social: muchas casetas son privadas, así que la experiencia cambia mucho dependiendo de cómo la vivas.
Jerez – Feria del Caballo
📅 9–16 de mayo de 2026
Si buscas una feria con un ambiente más abierto y accesible, Jerez es una alternativa maravillosa.
Granada – Cruces de Mayo
📅 3 de mayo de 2026 (día principal)
Una de las celebraciones más espontáneas y fáciles de disfrutar. Con multitud de actividades en toda la ciudad, pensadas para todas las edades.
Madrid – San Isidro
📅 9–15 de mayo de 2026
Una forma más urbana y castiza de vivir la primavera. Durante toda la semana y especialmente el día 15, Madrid se engalana con su fiesta más popular. Es muy habitual ver a parejas bailando chotis por el centro y a los barquilleros típicos.
Girona – Temps de Flors
📅 9–17 de mayo de 2026
Una experiencia más pausada, estética y diferente dentro del viaje pero igual de bella y sorprendente. Una forma diferente de conocer esta mágica ciudad catalaa.
